Designing your bathroom could be the most exciting or challenging time during a bathroom design, specially if you’re designing multiple bathrooms at a time. Here, I will share with you my top tips and bathroom tile ideas to assist you in the design process and how you could start choosing tiles for your next bathroom remodel.
When designing a home or a bathroom, planning is always key. That is why I recommend getting inspired by checking out our Pinterest, and LIKEtoKNOW.it, even a simple google search so that you have an idea of what design style you may be interested in before heading out to your nearest tile store. If you have a clear idea of your design, bring color swatches, vanity color, countertop sample, pictures of fixtures, and see how the colors work together with your tiles. If you have no idea, and tiles are your first step in the design process then here are some tips for you!
Start your tile search by first identifying your bathroom floor tile, then shower wall, and finally accent, and shower floor. When you start looking for the general bathroom floor and find nothing you like, head over to the mosaic or pattern tiles and grab a piece that will inspire the overall project.
Now, with that glass mosaic or pattern tile head over to shower wall tiles and see what tiles works best with it. Note: it’s important to know off the back if you’re interested in a dark, medium, or light bathroom as this will help you narrow down your search, a way of deciding this could be the amount of lighting you get in your bathroom.
Bathroom Tile Ideas Tips:
Tile size is a big factor in the overall feel of the space. The bigger the tile, the bigger the space will feel since their are less grout lines which means less cleaning and the overall feel of the space will feel more modern and spacious with cleaner lines.
Horizontal bathroom tile ideas:
Tiling in a horizontal direction will make your ceiling feel higher.
Vertical bathroom tile ideas:
Tiling in a vertical direction will make your bathroom feel wider and more spacious which is why most bathroom are in this direction.
Their tons of different directions to lay tile for different bathroom designs, so if you’re interesting in knowing more about different directions to lay tile leave a comment below, and I’d be happy to create a new post dedicated to the different tile directions.
Grout is used as a filler for the joints between tiles once the tile you are installing has been set. Most of the time grout it not something you want to see, because you want your tile to be your show stopper. Blending the grout is a great idea to get a seamless look specially when tiling wood look tile. However, grout can also be the be the superstar if combined properly with your tile to achieve a particular design.
Living in Las Vegas, Nevada you see a lot of glamorish tiles being used in Casinos, and why not? Las Vegas is all about fun!!! Therefore, when designing fun spaces, and tiling jaw-dropping tiles, or simply boring tiles, did you know you can completely transform the design of your tile with glittery grout? Well you can, and yes it exists!
Grout can also be scary for some, so if you’re not to confident about your decision get a couple of friends or head over to a free design consultant which usually some tile places will have, or you can simply ask me and I will guide you in the right direction for the look you want to achieve.
In this design I combined vintage-rustic tiles with a thassos white chevron tile, and a light wood look flooring. Our main goal for this bathroom was to keep it light, interesting but with some color. This is why I used a light wood look flooring, a chevron for our accent and a green muted- multi pattern tile which adds color, but still won’t take away from our main attraction which is our chevron.
Here you have a sleek modern bathroom design! In this bathroom design I used the wood look tile as the general bathroom flooring. The large black format tile for the shower side walls. The marble look tile for the back wall with a strip of this gorgeous subtle pattern. When designing the back vanity wall, a combination of the black tile and pattern would look amazing! If you would like to keep the space lighter, simply switch the black for the marble look, and voila!
3. Bathroom Tile Ideas: Blush Hexagon & Marble looking Tile
Who else is into blush these days??? This bathroom tile idea was inspired by the blush hexagon! It’s a light, fresh, and geometrical bathroom design that you’ll simply love! Some bathroom tile ideas for your bathroom could be to use the hexagons for the vanity wall or a simple strip that can be carried from the vanity backsplash to the the shower depending on your bathroom layout.
Because of the different patterns, balancing is key for this bathroom design. The marble tile can be used as the general bathroom floor, and shower floor. On the side walls you can add the diamond pattern tile and create a niche size 1’x6′, while keeping the rest of the shower walls with the marble look. The hexagon can be a used as either shower floor or vanity wall. The vanity can be white with these awesome orange-brass handles.
5. Bathroom Tile Ideas: Chevron and Marble Looking Tile
A gorgeous contrast of the dark blue concrete tile and the marble look with the chevron accent will be the bathroom you won’t forget. This is one of my favorite bathroom tile ideas since I love blue!!! In this bathroom design you can use the chevron to tile the entire vanity wall, but also to create accents in the shower or tub surround. For the shower walls or tub surround you can use either the marble looking tile or the dark blue tile. Note: If you do decide to go with this chevron which has brass, you can also consider your knobs, handles, schluter, and shower head the same color to create cohesiveness throughout.
What inspired this bathroom tile design was the amazing dark forest pickets! I simply loved the bevel edges and how its not complexly solid colored tile. Since I wanted to keep the pickets the main focal or accent, I combined it with a soft neutral cream tile for the general bathroom floor and shower walls. The pennies will be used for the shower floor, and possible wainscot for the throne room.
This Industrial bathroom design was inspired by the heather pattern that has black and grey, and this awesome black slate tile to add some texture! A great color palette if you’re looking for a neutral design that you can switch accessories with.
Another of my favorite bathroom tile ideas that I have designed yet! Loving this blue glass subway tile and this gorgeous fish scale tile!!! What’s so great about this design is how relaxed the space feels, and the color palette can remind us of the beach, so to me it does feel like a bathroom oasis where you can relax.
Two trends in one! Combining dark with light creates a contrast and a makes this gorgeous pattern stand out even more. Since the veining in the marble tile is very subtle, the pattern is the show stopper. Pattern and marble look tiles have been all the rage these past 2 years and are still going strong as bathroom tile ideas.
Love this multi colored hexagon tile!!! I wanted to keep this as my focal point so I choosed the wood look tile as the flooring to keep it light, and the blue concrete tile as shower walls. This bathroom has tons of lighting in the space therefore the room won’t look so small or dark.
